Stefan/Valerie was arguable more substantial and substantive than Elena/Stefan given Stefan/Valerie lasted over 3 times as long and wasn't based on one's being a doppelganger of someone else. Valerie Tulle's personality, being the first heretic, etc. was all great stuff. She's arguably the only actually good thing in TVD S7.
